C&DARS will be participating in the 2025 Mills on the Air (MOTA) event in partnership with Mathern Mill. The club will be erecting an antenna on the historic site in Chepstow during an open event on the weekend of Saturday the 10th of May. Members of the public are welcome to visit the mill or make contact on the bands.
MOTA is an annual event organised by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and Nunsfield House Amateur Radio Group to both promote the hobby of radio whilst attracting interest to historically significant mills. More information on the MOTA event can be found on the NHARG website linked here.
The Mathern site dates back to at least the 16th Century and the current mill of 18th century origin was still in use until 1968. The scale of the mill is significant, stacking 4 floors with 4 sets of stones capable of producing 30-tonnes of flour per week. The mill is Grade II* listed and has ongoing presevation works and so opens just a few weekends each year.
The event callsign will be GB2MM and we will be operating on 2m, 20m and 40m. Mathern Mill will be open for viewing around 2:30pm on Saturday or Sunday.
